APS is always trying to bring in different components to enrich our curriculum. And from September to February, APS students are invited to join a swimming course so they can enjoy more than just water play! Through a step-by-step curriculum, we hope students can learn how to swim. The curriculum is outlined as below:

  • Staying calm in the water
  • Using life-buoy or floats
  • Breathe under water
  • Swimming 1/2 lap (with assistance)
  • Paddling (with assistance)
  • Swimming a lap (with assistance)

* Please note that individual learning progress varies depending on individual’s ability, strength and skills.

In every class, students will go through the routine of changing themselves, locking up their belongings, stretching, getting into the water, drying and changing themselves. The course will be conducted by two bilingual qualified swimming coaches in private group lessons with the suprevision and assistance from APS teachers. Students will be picked up to and fro APS by a coach.

    team games
Students in this program will learn about what makes a team, how to be part of a team, how to work together with peers, and most important of all, about the idea of team spirit and participation. They will also learn to cope with losing and waiting.

    birthday party tolerance program
This program targets for students who cannot cope with noises, afraid of surprises, and above all, cannot control their behavior and emotions when going to birthday parties. Teachers will design programs to desensitize certain fears students have towards parties. And we will help students understand the expectation and routines of parties.

Besides extra-curricular activities, Autism Partnership School also provides Individual Therapy Services and Home Visit Programs for school students after school.

  individual therapy
After school one-on-one therapy, on the one hand, will supplement what is taught in school and on the other hand, lessons will have a strong emphasis on developing individual skills in other aspects which the school may not have time to address. Similar to IEP at school, students in individual therapy will also receive an IEP that specifically designs according to the needs of their development.

home visit
This program will help parents/ caretakers at home to generalize programs that are taught at school. Classroom Lead Teacher will visit student's home on a regular basis to provide training and teaching to parents/ caretaker so students' skills can be generalized. Teacher responsible will also help train students' independence at home.
